Description
This here be an OLD mechanical bank made of cast iron and carries a patent date of Apr. 27, 1897. Dat's even older dan me! The base has “Always Did ‘Spise a Mule” cast into it. When properly set, and coin in place under the little black fella, pushing the release button causes the mule to rear up, swing around and smack him, knocking him over. At this time the coin then slides into the bank. To reset, the horse is spun around and pushed down to the base. Then the little guy is brought upright and locked back in place, ready for another pop in the mouth. Works just fine but has some paint loss suffered over the last hundred years, or so. Lid for bank is somewhere else. This is quite rare and very fine example of true antique black Americana. What else to say?
